My Thoughts on Valentine's Day

It seems like everyone has a different feeling about Valentine's Day.  During Valentines day there are always three different types of articles that gets published about the subject. Positive articles about Valentine’s Day, Anti-Valentine’s Day, and Single Awareness Day.  The thing is I personally kinda despise all these types of articles.

The reason being is the pro valentine's articles are all about love and celebrating this special day with your special someone.  But the thing is if you are in a loving and exclusive relationship, why do you need a special day to celebrate; you shouldn't if you’re in a healthy relationship that is going to stand the length of time.  Those people that post their basket of presents they got from their special someone, you have no need to feel jealous.  Because if a person feels the need to spend that much money doesn’t give that person love when they really need it.

The Anti-Valentine’s Day articles I kinda love to hate.  Sometimes they do put a negative spin on Valentine's Day and being single.  But others, the ones I love have wonderful Anti-Valentine's Day.  What I would do to have a fries before guys shirt.  The thing is Valentine's Day really isn’t that big of a deal.  And sadly Valentine's Day will never be the same as it was when you were in elementary school.  Nothing is better than writing down “be my valentine” on a card for the person you think is cute then covering it up with a bunch of stickers because a valentine is way too serious for a second grader.

The articles I never like during the Valentine's period are the single awareness ones. This is not the 1950s where if we are not married by 23 we are destined to be a spinster for the rest of our lives. I’ve been in pretty much every different kind of relationship. And I’m honestly happier when I’m single. Relationships are hard and being in college and being in a relationship is something that builds a lot of stress. So why do the articles make being single seem like a bad thing? You can do what you want, you don’t have to worry if you’re going to hurt someone's feelings if you’d rather hang out with your friends, and you don’t have to buy someone a gift and a 99 cent card at Walgreens.
