Easy Ways to Add Water to Your Diet

Last year, I was away at school, and I realized just how important water is to have in your diet.  I got up in the morning and didn’t have anything to drink or eat and went up to one of my friends' rooms.  I got up to walk to town and fell down and woke up a couple of minutes later on the ground.  What happened was my body was dehydrated and it was exhausting my body.  Here are a couple of ways to easily add water to your diet.  Especially in the summer months, it's super important to stay hydrated.

Always Have It With You

This one seems simple, but think about everything you drink during the day.  Trade your soda with dinner for a water.  Not only will this save you money, but it will be much healthier.

Tea

Sometimes plain water is something you only crave on a hot day.  Tea is a great low calorie way to add water to your body.  Just remember to drink decaffeinated tea.

Eat it!

Fruits and vegetables carry a high amount of water in each piece.  Not only are you getting healthy sugars, but you are also hydrating your body.

Camelbak

These are the best ways to drink the most water without feeling like you’re chugging a water bottle whole.

7 Ways to Use Cucumbers in Your Beauty Routine

1. Hair Mask

This is for people who spend their summers by the pool.  Chlorine can be very damaging to your hair.  Add together 1 tsp. olive oil, 1 egg, and half a peeled cucumber.  Put it in a food processor until it is smooth then leave it in your hair for 10 minutes.

2. Refreshing Summer Bath

This is a little like a DIY summer bubble bath.  Fill the bathtub with cool or lukewarm water, then add 2 cups Epsom salt, about 4 to 5 sprigs of peppermint, and 1 sliced cucumber.

3. Sunburn Relief

Putting cucumber slices on a sunburn is a healthy and natural way to soothe the affected area without any burning or itching.

4. Eye Brightener

This is the most well-known way to use cucumber in your beauty routine.  It’s in every movie about a girl who is spoiled rich, even though it only costs about one dollar for 10 treatments.  Just cut two cucumber slices and leave them on your eyes for 20 minutes.

5. Rejuvenating Mask

This is the easiest and common use for cucumber on your skin.  Just apply cucumber juice and lemon juice to your facial area.  This has been proven to highlight and improve complexion.

6. Ingrown Hair and Acne Treatment

I never thought that tomato juice and cucumber would go together, but mixing tomato juice, cucumber juice, apple cider vinegar, and aloe creates a mixture to help clear pores.

7. Smile Creator

This one is technically a beauty pro because a smile on your face is always better than a frown.  Cucumbers are the most unknown hangover cure.  Just eat a few slices of cucumbers before you go to bed and you will wake up in better shape the next morning then if you didn’t.

How to Enjoy the Beach Alone

When you live by the beach or are on vacation, there are some times where you want to go to the beach but everyone is busy, or the people you are on vacation with want to visit a museum and you would rather sit and relax on the shoreline.  Truth be told, sometimes being at the beach alone can feel like the most awkward thing ever.  But in all reality, no one ever wonders why you’re all alone or were your friends are.  You do you and enjoy the sun and sand alone.

Bring a Book

Bringing a book to the beach is the best way to keep yourself occupied because, well, you can’t see your phone in the sun.  Also, it’s a great break from swimming and other activities at the beach.

P.S. The best way to stay interested when you’re trying to get a tan

Water Sports

Most beaches have rentals where, for an hour or so, you can rent a paddle board or a kayak.  One thing on my bucket list is to go paddle boarding, which will obviously make a cool selfie.  When you’re alone, you can do whatever sport you want, whereas in a group, you have to go along with the popular choice.

Take Photos

I’ve never been to a beach that wouldn’t look great on the cover of National Geographic because, honestly, are there any ugly beaches in the world?

Meet New People

Chances are you are not the only one on the beach alone, and in reality, being nice to the people next to you will not hurt you.  Say “Hi” and start a conversation!

The White Tee

Whenever you read an article about the one thing that every fashion-obsessed person should have in their closet, the answer is usually a cute pair of pumps or a great pair of skinny jeans.  But what about the white tee?  It's classic and everyone has one, but why is it that it is not used more in our outfits?  This article is going to show you how you can use that white tee that's folded in the back of your closet to help you become the most stylish person in every part of your life.

Casual

This is the most common way to wear a white tee.  The problem that I think most people find with white tees is that they give you a boxy figure.  Wear a white tee with some high waisted shorts to show off your waist!

Business

White dress shirts are the most constricting thing to wear in the world.  When I was a manager, I hated wearing them.  A white shirt is a great way to look professional while also being comfortable.  When wearing a white shirt, the rest of your outfit has to be very professional.  Maybe you can wear jeans when you're wearing a dress shirt.  You can also wear it with a pencil skirt and some heels.

Formal

A v-neck tee shirt is a great way to look classy and fancy when you have to go to a dressy event.  Even though you may be wearing one shirt from a three pack you got at TJ Maxx, who would ever know?  It's great when you're running late and didn't buy anything to wear.  For this outfit, go with a low v-neck and a skirt.  Tuck the shirt into the skirt to create a great waistline.

Street Style

A white shirt can be anything from what you wake up in the morning wearing to what you wear to work, and also to what you wear when you go out on a Friday night.  For the white tee, go with a shirt that is not a crew neck but is something more like a high v-neck.  Match it with a patterned skirt and some colorful heels.

Beach Wear

I live on the Cape, so I had to add some beach wear to this post.  Right now, it's way too cold to just wear a bathing suit to the beach, but it's great to experience the beach before the tourists come.  Wear your loose white tee with some boyfriend jeans.

What was Life Without Gnocchi?

About three weeks ago, I had no idea what Gnocchi was, so don’t worry if you don’t know whether I’m talking about a new designer or a cute type of mixed breed dog.  My three loves in life are fashion, dogs, and food.  Gnocchi is a combination of my two favorite foods, potatoes, and cheese.  A few weeks ago, I was at work and said, “What am I eating? It’s amazing,” and one of the guys in the kitchen said “Gnocchi.” Yeah, I was still lost, but then I googled it and couldn’t believe I didn’t know what it was before.  Here are a couple of delicious Gnocchi recipes.

Basic Gnocchi

INGREDIENTS:
1 egg
2 potatoes
2 cups all-purpose flour

DIRECTIONS:
1.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Peel potatoes and add to pot. Cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and mash with a fork or potato masher.
2.
Combine 1 cup mashed potato, flour, and egg in a large bowl. Knead until dough forms a ball. Shape small portions of the dough into long "snakes." On a floured surface, cut dough “snakes” into half-inch pieces.
3.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Drop in gnocchi and cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until gnocchi have risen to the top; drain and serve.

Herb Gnocchi

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups water
12 tablespoons (6 ounces) unsalted butter
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon chopped chervil
1 tablespoon chopped chives
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
1 cup loosely packed shredded Comté or Emmentaler cheese
5 to 6 large eggs
Preparation
Set up a heavy-duty mixer with the paddle attachment. Have all the ingredients ready before you begin cooking.
Combine the water, butter, and the 1 teaspoon salt in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium, add the flour all at once, and stir rapidly with a stiff heatproof or wooden spoon until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and the bottom of the pan is clean, with no dough sticking to it. The dough should be glossy and smooth but still moist.
Enough moisture must evaporate from the dough to allow it to absorb more fat when the eggs are added: Continue to stir for about 5 minutes, adjusting the heat as necessary to prevent the dough from coloring. A thin coating will form on the bottom and sides of the pan. When enough moisture has evaporated, steam will rise from the dough and the aroma of cooked flour will be noticeable. Immediately transfer the dough to the mixer bowl. Add the mustard, herbs, and the 1 tablespoon salt. Mix for a few seconds to incorporate the ingredients and release some of the heat, then add the cheese. With the mixer on the lowest speed, add 3 eggs, one at a time, beating until each egg is completely incorporated before adding the next one. Increase the speed to medium and add another 2 eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each one. Turn off the machine. Lift some of the dough on a rubber spatula, then turn the spatula to let it run off: It should move down the spatula very slowly; if it doesn't move at all or is very dry and just falls off in a clump, beat in the additional egg.
Place the dough in a large pastry bag fitted with a 5/8-inch plain tip and let it rest for about 30 minutes at room temperature. (If you have only a small pastry bag, fill it with half the dough two times.) Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a simmer. Line a baking sheet with paper towels. Line a second baking sheet with parchment paper.
Because this recipe makes such a large quantity of gnocchi, your arm may get tired: An easy way to pipe the gnocchi is to place a large inverted pot, canister, or other container that is slightly higher than the pot on the right side of the pot (left side if you are left-handed) and set the filled pastry bag on it so that the tip extends over the side and the container serves as a resting place for the bag. Twist the end of the pastry bag to push the dough into the tip. (From time to time, as the bag empties, you will need to twist the end again.) As you squeeze the back of the bag with your right hand, hold a small knife in your left hand and cut off 1-inch lengths of dough, allowing the gnocchi to drop into the pot. Pipe about 24 gnocchi per batch. First, the gnocchi will sink in the pot. Keep the water temperature hot, but do not boil. Once the gnocchi float to the top, poach them for another 1 to 2 minutes, then remove them with a slotted spoon or skimmer and drain on the paper towel–lined baking sheet. Taste one to test the timing; it may still seem slightly undercooked in the center, but it will be cooked again. Repeat with the remaining dough.
When all the gnocchi have drained, place them in a single layer on the parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to a day. Or, for longer storage, place the baking sheet in the freezer. Once the gnocchi have frozen solid, remove them from the baking sheet and place in a freezer bag in the freezer. Before using frozen gnocchi, spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and defrost in the refrigerator for several hours.

A Easy College Storage DIY

You would be surprised how big of an industry storage is.  Especially when it comes to buying furniture for your dorm room, every little bit of innovation helps to save a little money.  Last year I used milk crates to organize all the little things in my dorm room.

Under Bed Storage

When in college, the place you use to hide during hide-and-seek as a child becomes the best place to store little things.  But even throwing your shoes under the bed will cause problems because when you're rushing and can only find one shoe, you will really wish you had some organized storage.
What you need:
6 Zip Ties
6 Books
4 Milk Crates
Scissors

This is is super simple.  Every year, a couple professors will say you absolutely need the book, but chances are you won't open it.  Take those couple of books to lift this off the ground so you can easily clean underneath.  Then, use the zip ties to secure the milk crates and cut the extra plastic with the scissors.

 Closet Storage

When I leave for school in the fall, it's 80 degrees, and then in the winter, it's -12.  Having a good place to store your shorts and skirts during the winter is a necessity.  Just remember to label the buckets to easily grab that Alice and Olivia skirt when the weather gets better.

 A Comfy Seat

When you're in college, the one thing you will almost miss more than your puppy back home is a couch.  This idea is great because you're also using the space for storage.  College is all about working with a small space, and this little couch is a perfect way to use your space a little more comfortably.

 Bookcase Storage

In my opinion, leave all your books at home because they are heavy, and chances are you will not have the time to read them.  This is a great way to store your books and anything else because it also builds a shelf for you to put other things on.
