20 things you have to know by 20

It’s sad to say I will not be a teenager anymore.  It may sound too much, but things change in your 20’s.  You graduate college, move out of what feels comfortable to you, and start a career. I wanted to make a list of things that I think everyone should know before they take those steps in their life.

1. The Little things Make your day

theodysseyonline.com
If you’re waiting for some giant gesture or some message from fate to brighten your day, chances are it won’t happen.  Look for the little bits of happiness and kindness in your day.

2. How to make breakfast

foodnetwork.com
Possibly the most important skill, well because it is the most important meal they say.  Knowing how to make a kick ass breakfast is important because soon you can not just walk down to the dining hall and get pancakes.  Also, making someone breakfast in bed is too cute.

3. How to Argue Kindly

Gif courtesy of
studlife.com
People our age do not know how to have debates and kindly share their opinion, honestly I think there needs to be a college course on this.  People were brought up differently and have been through different experiences and chances are, your opinion is not correct because it’s hard to know all aspects on hot topics.  Unless you wrote a book on the subject, respect others opinions.

4. How to carry a conversation with Someone of Any Age

When you’re 20, you’re not considered a kid anymore.  When you go to family gatherings you’re expected to have knowledgeable conversations; you can’t just stick to what’s trending on Twitter anymore.  Also, you’re expected to know what to say to your little baby cousins.  By 20, you should be able to talk to your grandfather about life and also your little cousin about Spongebob.

5. Turn your phone off for a day

quotesgram.com
When you walk into a college classroom before class starts everyone is on their phone.  If we only put down our phones and had conversations with people, there would probably be no need for Tinder to be an app.  Be able to live without your phone because you don’t want to be that couple in five years on your phones while at a $200 dinner.

6. Be Alone

gulfelitemag.com
When you move on from college, chances are you’re going be be far away from anyone you know.  You need to be able to be happy by yourself, and also be able to entertain yourself.  If you're constantly dependent on others, you’ll never find yourself.

7. Have a Bae that is not a significant other

You need a homegirl or a homeboy.  Someone that will take your calls at 3am and you don’t feel bad because you took theirs the night before.  Friends don’t stay friends forever, but there’s always that person that you just can’t live without there 3am calls.

8. Don’t waste time being shy

Being shy never got anyone anywhere.  Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and make your voice known.  Especially taking small steps like speaking up in class.

9. Sleep well

yahoo.com
You need your sleep; without sleep you won’t be at your best.  Learn when it’s time to call it a night because not being good to your body is a horrible thing.

10. Fall in love whenever you can

I got this from a movie I recently watched and just kinda loved it. Love happens when you least expect it and I think people our age kinda hide from love, and avoid it at all costs. But I'd rather take a chance and get hurt then not take it at all, because love is never a waste of time.

11. Getting angry is pointless

When you think about it, you’re eventually going to get over it. If it’s something that when you think about it, it doesn't matter then forget about it. If it does matter, relax think it though and come up with a plan.

12. Cry with no shame

Photot courtesy of tumblr.com
Crying is actually good for you, it’s the easiest way to get over things. There seems to be a stigma that crying somehow makes you weak, but it’s healthy and never feel bad about it.

13. Dieting is stupid

I just recently did the Skinny Mint tea, and yes it did make me lose a little of weight, but it also made my body feel horrible.  My stomach was never in so much pain.  Instead of dieting, try to add more colors to your plate and take a walk during your lunch break.

14. Don’t dwell on your mistakes, learn from them

We are human and that means we all make mistakes and that is perfectly okay.  We break things and those things fall apart, but don’t dwell on them for long or at all.

15. Love and Take Care of your body

It breaks my heart, but your body is never going to look as good as it does at 20.  Take care of yourself, don’t poison your body with things that are going to hurt you in the future.

16. Love your family more than anything

When sh*t hits the fan, these people are going to be there when you need them.  Don’t push them away, tell them how much you respect everything they do for you and don’t disrespect them in any way.

17. Learn how to dress like an adult

In case leggings are not pants.  Learn what business casual is and know how to pull it together at a moment's notice.

18. Learn how to save money

This one I really need to know how to do a better job at.  Learn what is important to buy, and know that because you have 10 pairs of boots, you probably do not need that 11th pair.

19. Trust your gut

You know yourself better than anyone else does. If a friendship, situation, or life choice doesn’t seem like a good one - drop it.  You don’t give yourself enough credit.  And trust me that party that is a mile walk and starts at 3am is not worth it.

20. Eat cake, whenever you can

Enjoy your life because at this point your only responsibility is yourself and your potential future.  Take chances, apply for sweet internships you probably will never get (sadly did not get the Facebook internship in Germany) and make new friends.

10 Best Drugstore Beauty Products

intothegloss.com
There's nothing I love more than cheap bands that I love over items I have to work two hours for just to be able to buy a few ounces of shampoo.  Here's a list of my favorite items from the drugstore and some honorable mentions of items from the same brand.

10. Suave Deep Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner

When you're in college, you realize how buying the little things can add up and kinda make you frown when you get to the checkout at CVS.  This shampoo and conditioner combo is great when you are buying on a budget.

Honorable Mentions:

9. Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves

I do not have curly hair, but I do have very frizzy hair.  This is a perfect product because it makes my overly dyed damaged hair look healthy.

Honorable Mentions

8.  Nivea Sun Kissed Radiance

This is one of the only self tanners that has not made by skin look orange.  What I also really like about this product is the smell and how long it takes to dry.  It has a scent that is not over powering and takes about the time to brush your teeth to dry.

Honorable Mentions:

8. Dove Body Wash

This body wash cleans your skin, but also moisturizes it at the same time.  One of the biggest tips I have for using body wash is use the absolute least amount.  The water will make even the smallest amount work.

Honorable Mentions:

7. Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick

I can not believe how much some lipstick costs and most of it just gets everywhere.  Try this brand next time; they are only a couple of dollars so if you hate the color the next day there's no worries.

Honorable Mentions:

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Even though I find mascara the hardest to tell the difference between the brand, this is my favorite.  One thing to remember is don't be fooled with waterproof mascara.  The reason being is waterproof stays on your skin longer and is unhealthy.

Honorable Mentions:

5. Garnier Fructis Curl Sculpting Cream Gel

Like Kinky Moves, this product helps tame my hair.  This is more thin and this product will work on even the thickest of hair.

Honorable Mentions:

4. Batiste Dry Shampoo

This dry shampoo is great because not only does it not leave white specks in your hair, it also comes in different scents.  Nothing better than not having to wear a hat to cover up your bed head.

  3. Yes to Tomatoes Charcoal Cleaner

This is one company I have never seen a fault in their product.  They are all made from natural ingredients and are one of the best drugstore finds.

Honorable Mentions:

2. Revlon Colorstay Foundation

I have only used two different foundations in my life, and since I found this one I haven't not used it since freshman year of high school. I have terribly oily skin and this foundation has the longest wear.

Honorable Mentions:

1. Freeman

I currently ran out of this product and miss it dearly.  This face mask works better than my prescription acne medicine and also smooths out your skin.

7 Swimwear trends you need to know before spring break

theorchidboutique.com
If you’re a lot luckier than me this spring break, you’ll be sitting by the pool in a tropic oasis, sipping a mimosa right at 11 am.  Before you head out on your flight, you can’t forget your swim suit.  If you want to know all the new trends this season, I did a little research to live a little vicariously through your vacation.

Cut outs

oceandrive.com
This popular trend started as a cute way to show a little more skin when wearing a dress.  Now it's also appearing on runways on Miami Swim Week.
ASOS

Citrus Shades

Orange really is the new black.  Pick out of cute swim suite in your favorite citrus colors and you'll be the most fashionable at the pool.

Aquamarine

If you're not feeling orange or yellow, this is the perfect color for you to rock.  This color is a great compliment for in my opinion any skin color.
Zappos

Bondage

Don't let the title scare you away.  This is not 50 Shades of Grey inspired, bondage suites are just strappier one pieces.

Stripes

pinterest.com
In my opinion, you should at least have one striped suite in your carry on.  Even though you may feel a little like a sailor, maybe you’ll pick up a cute sailor when you’re on the beach.

Lace ups

thefashionspot.com
This trend is something that I find very interesting, mostly because it makes me think of the weird tan lines you will get.  This is a great suit to wear when you're going to be sipping by the pool.

Plunging Necklines

No longer are these suits the ones that always seem to be the same year after year in the Victoria’s Secret catalog.

5 Reasons to Love the Gym

When I moved into school freshman year, I couldn't wait to go to the gym. I thought it would be so nice to have a place to workout where all I needed to do was swipe a card. Well the motivation I had to go to the gym the first day quickly went away. It wasn't that I was busy and didn't have time to go to the gym it was more that I didn't know how to “gym”.

It’s not like high school gym class, where when you’re in the workout room you pretend to be doing something and wipe your forehead when the gym teacher walks by. You have to actually look like you know what you’re doing.  Here’s a few of my tips to learn to love the gym when you couldn’t be less athletic.

1. Know the times to go

My favorite time to go to the gym is Sunday night.  The reason being is there’s about three people there meaning you can use any machine you want.  Also, sometimes it’s a little intimidating to be at the gym next to people lifting more than twice your weight.  Honestly, how is that possible?

2. Ignore Everyone

lovethispic.com
Even if it you thought there would be no one at the gym at 7:03 on a Tuesday morning and now it’s packed and the only one left is the death machine.  Use the “death machine” until the bike is open and don’t care if you think other people are looking. I’m always so concentrated on texting and not falling on the machine, everyone else probably is too.

3. It’s a Great Stress Reliever

College is stressful, bet you’ve never heard that before. Instead of staying in bed watching Netflix, take your phone and headphones to the gym and watch Netflix while working out. There you can still get your binge watching in and not feel like you wasted any time.

4. Make A killer Playlist

Put on those guilty pleasures only you like, because you’re roommate can’t give you a hard time at the gym.

5. Cute Workout Clothing

Even though last year when I got into going to the gym I couldn't help online shopping for cute workout clothing and it was so worth it.

7 Flawless Outfits to Copy this February

 All Black

 Dress:Splendid
Sometimes the best outfits are the most simple. On cold winter days, the best outfits take the lowest time.  For this outfit, all you need is a simple long sleeve black dress, knee highs and cute boots.  If you think this outfit looks a little cold for winter, get a cute, long wool trench coat.

Sweater Turtle Neck

Turtle Neck: Club Monaco
Jeans:Top Shop
Turtlenecks are no longer just for Sue Heck. What I really love this season is a crop top turtle neck.  The reason being is it is a warm way to look cute.

The Pancho

Pancho: Bloomingdales
The Pancho is no longer something that only America Ferrera can pull off.  They are recently becoming more fashionable, this trend started by becoming popular as a beach cover up.  Now you can rock a Pancho in the winter and be a total fashionista.
Color Block
Sweater:Wild Frang
Jacket:Burberry
Pants:Nordstrom
Sneakers:Nike
Yesterday I saw someone wearing a color block sweater with neutral colors and thought it was so cute.  This is a great use of color block because the colors do not clash with your winter appear.  I have two winter jackets, blue and green, it's hard sometime to wear colored clothing without looking like a plum, but this is the perfect way to wear two colors with also showing off your curves in the best way.
Long Tutu
Shirt:J Crew
Sneakers: Converse
This outfit rocks three of my favorite styles: sneakers, a tutu and a crop-top turtle neck..  If you want to wear a skirt in the winter and still be warm the best thing is to wear a long skirt.  You can wear tights under them too and no one will notice.
Fur Vest
Vest:H&M
Scarf:LL Bean
Boots: Steve Madden
I absolutely love these vests.  Only if they are not made with animal fur, good for the animals also good for your wallet.  The best thing about this is that it creates a focal point for your outfit which allows the rest of your outfit to be more relaxed.
Black and White Plaid
 Hat:ASOS
Leggings: Bloomingdales
Jacket: Forever 21
Black and white are my favorite colors in plaid. Their combination creates a more fashionable, rather than a relaxed country feel.  Also, what I love about this outfit are the boots. There's nothing more than I want, maybe a Canon DSLR, than a great pair of high-heeled black boots.
