5 Reasons Why Temporary Tattoos Are the Best Accessory

This past weekend I held a bridal shower for my brother. One of my baby cousins needed some cheering up and so I offered to give her a temporary tattoo.  When I was a little kid, I loved these tattoos. What I thought would keep my cousin’s mind off her pain quickly came a fun activity for my friends and me.

1. Tattoos are addicting AF

A photo posted by tattly (@tattly) on
All my friends who got tattoos when they turned 18 now have at least one or two more.  Personally, I would love to get a tattoo; but like most people my age, I have no idea what my future job will be and it would be horrible to not get my dream job because of a tattoo.

2. They’re gorgeous and unique

Even though rose tattoos are extremely popular, my favorite are the flower tattoos because they’ve never reminded me of a tattoo I’ve seen a million times.

3. They last longer than you'd think

Most of the tattoos are five dollars for two tattoos, which does seem like a lot, but when you put it in a good spot it can last more than a week.  I put my blue flowered tattoo on my upper arm and it looked great until I accidentally put some lotion on it.

4. They make custom tats

I think this is a great idea if you’re having a large event like a birthday party or especially a wedding.  It’s a great way to add an activity for your guests and Tattly is happy to work to make your design your own.

5. The selection

Tattly has pretty much a tattoo for every different type of person. From fun children tattoos to a great gift for your great grandma, Tattly has a great set of artists that are constantly creating new tattoos,

3 Biggest Makeup Myths

I honestly don’t believe that anyone is really “bad” at makeup. I also don’t need that anyone “needs” makeup. What I do believe is that you need to have the right philosophy to avoid having bad makeup. Whenever I see someone who can’t do makeup, I realize that they generally follow certain beliefs that make makeup useless.

#1: Makeup Hides

Gif Courtesy of dolly.com.au
You can’t really hide anything with makeup. I always see people boast that makeup is so powerful that it can disguise everything on your face but that’s usually just for pictures and bathroom mirrors. In real life, light will fall on your face and reveal that unsightly bump you’re trying to hide. This is not to say that your scars and facial flaws cannot be alleviated with the help of a good foundation or concealer, but nothing is actually hidden.
Once makeup becomes about hiding the parts of your face that you do not like, you become addicted to piling it on and on especially on your worst days. This just leads to a masked, cake-face. Try to think of seeking instead of hiding. You want to lead people’s eyes to the best parts of your face (and I know there are many).
Makeup is really like a neon arrow saying “hey look here!” rather than a bandaid covering up a blemish. Lip colors that suit you, highlighter and eyeliner are used to bring eyes to the parts of your face that you favor. Applying makeup with this mindset always makes you happier in the morning, too, so you’re focusing on your good parts and not the things you resent about your (probably perfect) face.

#2: Some People Need Makeup

I really hate this one. There are always people who are going to hate others for wearing makeup and they always claim that some people are just plain ugly without makeup. Refer to Myth #1. Without makeup, no one is going to suddenly have a haggard face. Most people just look tired or younger without makeup. I’ve never seen anyone that’s transformed into another person.
Even with contour, the face you were given at birth is pretty much the face that you will reveal to the world every day. You only know yourself through pictures and the bathroom mirror in certain lighting, so maybe you are actually shocked when you take of your Kardashian contour – but they human eye is often more clever. No one is going to think you are hideous without makeup. They might ask if you’re sleepier, but sleepy is cute. Have you ever seen a sleeping puppy or kitten? Totally adorbs! Don’t worry about it.

#3: Wearing Makeup Means You’re Vain

Let’s be honest. Almost everyone is concerned to a degree about thier appearance. It is not really wise to say that just because someone is intervening with what nature gave them is actually more concerned or vain. I think most people who wear makeup actually find application fun and colors interesting.
It’s horrible to assume that just because someone wears a crop top it means that they think they have the worst body ever and they are self-conscious, right? It’s like that with makeup. Just because someone wears makeup to show off the parts of their face they like or to experiment it doesn’t mean they are robots that are obsessed with physical appearance. It just means that they, um, like makeup. That’s all!

11 Steps to Having the Best Day on Martha's Vineyard

There are three day trips on the Cape that are a must: the Vineyard, Nantucket, and Provincetown. There's something about visiting these places. It seems like time goes by faster than ever, and you don't want to miss out on anything.  Here's some how to's and tips to make the best of Martha's Vineyard.

How to get around... Biking.

It’s the best way to get around the vineyard.  You’ll never get stuck in traffic or have to sit next to a sweaty tourist on the bus.  Also, there are bike racks everywhere around the vineyard.

One of the downsides is finding a place to park your car.  Parking in Woods Hole is possibly harder than parking in most cities.  There's rarely street parking, and all the lots are sticker parking.  A tip for free parking all day: park at one of the bike path lots.  The bike path goes right to the steamship and the ticket to bring your bike over is very low.

Get a coffee at... Pie in the Sky

This place does get extremely busy, but the line moves pretty fast and it’s extremely worth it.  Not only do they have great morning pastries, but they also have the best coffee in town.

Grab a drink at... Woods Hole Market

Woods Hole Market is one of the best parts of Woods Hole.  They have everything you could possibly need, including a great roof deck.  It is a great place to grab a drink -- you'll need it for your bike ride.

After the boat... Start biking

Once you get off the steamship, go left and after a short bike ride on the sidewalk, you'll find the bike path.  This path will take you straight to Edgartown. This bike path is perfect because it is long, but there are plenty of places to stop and

Stop for a quick swim at... Jaws Beach

As many people know, Steven Spielberg’s popular horror movie featuring a killer shark was filmed on Martha's Vineyard. You can't leave the vineyard without jumping off Jaws Beach.

Grab Breakfast at... Among the Flowers Cafe

It’s a very cute little restaurant that also serves a great lunch.  The service is wonderful, and the food is the most reasonably priced.

Shop at.... Edgartown Books

vineyardgazette.com
I'm not a bookstore person (I love the books I get for a penny on Amazon), but whenever I go to the vineyard, visiting this bookstore is a must.  There's something about the atmosphere of the book store I just love.

This is one of the guilty pleasures of the vineyard.  It’s always been said that there is no place to get cute clothing on The Cape, and in some cases that's true.  It's taken me 20 years to know what the best places on Falmouth are for everything.  This place is a little pricey, but it’s worth it in the end.

Get your sweet on at.... Murdick’s Fudge

murdicksfudge.com

If you're imagining the perfect fudge, this is your place.  Nowhere else have I seen the fudge being made right in front of you.  They also have some amazing brittle if fudge is not your thing.

Before I had to give up dairy, this place was my heaven.  They have everything from your favorite ice creams to frozen yogurt, obviously with some sweet toppings to choose from.

Finish the night off with.... Flying Horses

I don't care if you're five or 85, you can never be too old to ride this carousel. It's the most interactive carousel ride ever, and I still remember when I first did it when I was a little kid.

4 Steps to Have a Spa Day at Home

There's one thing I've always wanted to do, but like most kids my age who are not privileged enough with a sweet trust fund, we should probably spend our money on food and rent before going to the spa.  ToGoSpa offers these sweet and inexpensive eye treatments to bring the spa to the comfort of your own living room.

1. Cut Off All Technology

The best and easiest way to relax is to cut off any technology.  It's very under thought, but technology can be very stressful - especially today. When you start your at home spa day, turn your phone off and find that book you've been wanting to read.

2. Wear a Bathrobe

There is no need to wear anything less than what’s extremely comfortable. Wear that robe you bought and never wear because honestly sitting in bed wrapped in a soft robe is pretty comfy.

3. At Home Relaxers

Put on some light relaxing background music or some relaxing nature sounds. It's not worth it to spend a Saturday just relaxing and having some me time for a change.

4. ToGoSpa

This will become your spa bae. DIY beauty treatments do work, but they can sometimes be a mess. These are classic and simple. They also help you feel more relaxed because they also act as a cold compress.

Why Candy Club is the best thing ever

When something comes in at the perfect time, you have to praise it and that’s what I did when a box of sweets from Candy Club arrived at my doorstep. When college gets stressful it’s ok to turn to a little candy to brighten the gloomiest of test days.

These people are the candy experts. I'm from the Cape and I thought I've tasted the best homemade taffy possible, but the cotton candy taffy I got in my box was more addicting than anything I've ever tasted before. It's probably a very good thing it was the smallest part of my box.

The jelly beans were very good, and always the blue one was my favorite.

My feelings on the sour strips (sour belts) and the gummy butterflies were split. They were both good in their own way, but they lost their appeal after a while.

This box is great, and if you join their mailing list you can get a great deal for some specialty candy. Also it's delivered to your door and nothing can get better than that.

Solutions for every dorm room problem

Dorm rooms are actually the worst thing ever.  You’re paying $1,000 a month for a 10 by 10 room that smells like old chinese food, because your windows are stuck closed. But you have to deal with it, so I’m here to help.

If Your Dorm Doesn't Have...Kitchen Storage
You’re going to get sick of eating at the dining hall and you’re going to eat at least two weeks in your room.  The only problem is even if you’re lucky enough to have storage in door, chances are your printer and books has taken up most of the room.

If you have a closet or wardrobe, bring a storage container and place your kitchenwares in there and put it on the top.  Unless it’s a coffee mug, you’re not going to be needing it every day.  If you place it uptop, it won’t take up empty room in your dorm.

For starters, do not bring too much clothing to school.  Even if it’s really cute and you think you’ll need it, chances are you won't.

If Your Dorm Doesn't Have...Good Lighting

Dorm rooms have horrible lighting, whenever I try to take any photos, it turns out yellow.  If you can, take advantage of the natural light or buy lighting for your room.

If Your Dorm Doesn't Have...Adequate Light Exposure

My dorm room is on the first floor, right next to a sidewalk, so sadly my window is covered up by blinds and a curtain. To add a little light to your room, add a mirror to your wall.  The light will bounce off the mirror and create brightness.

Nourish Organic Saved my Skin

Acne has always been a problem for me..  Even though it's not clinically horrible, it never seems to go away.  I do face masks, medications, weird DIY things I find on the Internet.

I went to the doctor a little over a month ago and got a new acne medicine.  In the first night I applied it on my face, my skin went from oily with acne to extremely dry with even more acne.   For someone who has always had oily skin, I had no idea what to do.  I know what masks and how long until my foundation makes my skin oily, but I had no idea how to solve and cover up this dry skin.

After using lots of lotions and body butters, I used the Fair Trade Shea Butter lotion from Nourish Organic.  During break, I got a job as a hostess at a local restaurant and I went in with dry skin everyday. This wasn't an option.

The Fair Trade lotion was perfect at helping me fix my dry skin.  It took a couple of nights for my dry skin to get back to normal.  What surprised me the most was that the lotion did not add any extra oiliness when I used it under my concealer and foundation.

If you're struggling with winter dry skin like me, I highly recommend this product to make your skin go from dry to dazzling!

16 Fashion Rules to Break in 2016

There’s one thing I kinda love and hate about fashion. What that is, is there are these “rules” and if they’re broken, you’re outfit is not perfect.  The reason why I love them is some of them are helpful.  For example, it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.  The reason being is when you are overdressed, you will look amazing and everyone will be oohing and awing over your outfit.  The reason why I don’t like it is I feel like it holds us back. Like for example, the picture of Britney and Justin wearing denim on denim.  Denim on Denim is not a fashion no no if done in the right way.  Here are a some fashion rules you should break in 2016.

1. Fashion Rules are meant to be taken seriously and followed

There’s not a set rule book of fashion rules in a book similar to the bible. Even though they want you to treat their magazines like the bible. You don’t always have to listen to what Vogue and Elle have to say.
 Flannel: Urban Outfitters
Sneakers: Vans

2. High Waisted Pants are “Mom Jeans”

When people think of high waisted jeans they think about the 70’s and what fashionable moms wear at soccer games. Well those soccer moms saw the trend way before any fashion mogul. I love high waisted pants, it makes your legs look longer and it also is an excuse to wear a crop top in the winter.
Jeans:Totokaelo
Sweater: Nordstrom
Sneakers: Vans

3. Loose Styles Are not  flattering

There seems to be a stigma that if you wear loose fitting clothing than your outfit looks flattering and it hides your shape. The thing is I think loose fitting clothing looks better than bodycon clothing. Also you are not constantly adjusting everything.
Jeans:Nordstrom
Purse:Lulus
Heels:Express

4. Don’t Wear Socks and Sandals

If you said this to someone around UVM you would not make many friends. Wearing socks with sandals is becoming more trendy than hunter boot. Which I kinda love because when I feel lazy just throwing on my fake berks is perfect.
Sweater: Venus
Jeans: Nordstrom
Socks: Torrid.com

5. Faux Diamonds are a fashion pass

I have no shame wearing the diamond earrings I got off Amazon for five dollars and neither should you. You don’t want to have a Kim K meltdown when you lose your expensive diamond earrings, do you?
Earrings: The Limited
Necklace: King Ice
Bracelet: Jet

6. Brown and Black don’t mix

I personally hate this rule more than all the other ones.  I love how my brown boots look with my black dresses.  And how is brown boots under leggings not fashionable?

Jacket: ASOS
Blue Dress:Modcloth
Hat: Talbots

 7. Sweatshirts are for Athletes

Sweatshirts are kinda amazing.  Their cozy and warm and there's no reason why you shouldn’t think they are fashionable.  Pair a sweatshirt with a skirt or a cute flowy pair of shorts and your outfit will be transformed.
Sweatshirt:Calvin Klein
Jeans:Top Shop
Sneakers: Nordstrom

8. Sequins are for Night Time

There is no reason why sequins have to be saved for after dark.  When matched with the right complimenting clothing and accessories, you can even wear sequins to work and look completely professional.
Blazer: Guess Factory
Shirt: Nordstrom

9. Pastels are only for Spring Time

Pale purple is one of my favorite colors and many people agree that they miss wearing these colors in the dead of winter.  Even though I also love black, wearing pastels are a nice way to add in some brightness to the darkest winter days.
Jacket:Jacket
Scarf: Last Call
Jeans: Nordstrom
Bag: Guess

10. Only wear one focus color at a time

Someone once said that you can not wear bright orange with another bright color.  I’m here to tell you that person was completely wrong.  Ever seen Kerry Washington on the red carpet?  Well her stylist is one of the best because she can make mixed matched colors be the most complimenting.

11. Red Lips are only for going out

I think T Swift proved that you don’t have to make up an excuse to wear red lips.  Whether you are doing the dishes, having brunch with your friends, or a date with the person you’ve been crushing on.  Rock those red lips.
Lipstick:Nars At Sephora
Scarf: ASOS
Tights: H & M
Boots: Nordstrom

12. You Should Always Match

There is not reason you’re outfit has to be completely matchy.  To be completely honest, I barely ever have socks that match.  Try new things, maybe you’ll be surprised and two colors you never thought would work will be perfect.
Jacket:Zaful
Clutch: ETSY
Necklace: Ross Simons

13. Sneakers are only for the Gym

Converse are one of the most underrated fashion footwear in my opinion.  I would rather have a pair of white converse than a pair of Louis Vuitton’s.
Jacket: LL Bean
Skirt:Lulus
Sneakers: Converse

14. You Can’t wear red to a Wedding

Unless you stand up in the middle of a wedding, walk up to the altar, and make out with the groom, there is no way you’re going to upstage the bride at her wedding.  It’s her day and everything is about her, which it should be.  Red’s a hot color, wear it proud.
Dress:Nordstrom
Clutch: Zappos

15. Stripes make you look bigger

In my opinion, cheetah print is one of the most unflattering prints, but everyone stays away from stripes because they think it makes you look larger.  It couldn’t be farther from the truth.  The thicker the stripes, it may tend to make you look bigger.  If you do think they make you look larger, stick to thinner stripes.
 Dress:Top Shop
Boots: Steve Madden
Shall: Nordstrom

16. Shorts are for Summer

Even though most people rock shorts in the summer, just because the days are shorter you can still rock those same shorts.  Wear a pair of tights under them and pair them with some cute boots or some ankle boot heels, and you’re set.
Blazer:The Limited
Sweater: Turtle Neck
Shorts: H &M
Shoes: Black boots
